The Rivella Campaign
Compositing and Postproduction
One hand too many, an arm missing, a bike shot with the bike partially out of the picture… It takes a lot of retouching and compositing before a raw photo becomes a crafted image.
Masking out stationary spokes against a noisy background and setting them in motion; seamlessly combining the eyes from photo #22 with the mouth from photo #57 — image editing means putting a lot of work into the most trivial details. The goal: not to be detectable.
The digital collages were decolorized and extensively re-colorized to create a look reminiscent of old boxing posters. A combination of scratches and traces of omitted paint application was layered on top; lastly, this treatment's result was inserted into a layout suggestive of wildly pasted-over billboards.
